Take a gonorrhoea test for peace of mind

It can be extremely upsetting for anyone to be infected with a sexually transmitted disease. It can make you depressed and worried, but its something that wont simply go away. If you dont meet the problem head-on, it could develop into a serious, life-threatening condition, so contact the local GUM clinic immediately for an appointment.
Youll be pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to take a gonorrhoea test, for example, and the results are available in a few days. If treatment is required, its usually nothing more than a course of antibiotics. Peace of mind really isnt that far away.

How an early pregnancy test works.

A urine early pregnancy test works by measuring the amount of hCG (pregnancy hormone) in your urine.

Typically you need to have missed your period for these to be accurate, particularly to achieve a positive result. However, if your test comes positive a couple of days before you have a missed period, then hCG has been detected in your urine and you are indeed pregnant.

If you get a negative result and you have tested prior to your missed period, you will need to wait a couple of days before you retest.

Tests are becoming more and more sensitive, so more and more women will be able to get a positive result earlier on in the pregnancy.

Think You Might Need a Chlamydia Test?

Chlamydia is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases and, left untreated, the short and long-term consequences for a patient with this infection can be severe. And the fact that many patients have no symptoms and so don’t realise they are infected means it’s possible for the condition to go undetected for long periods.

The good news, however, is that with antibiotics, chlamydia is treatable. It’s also easy to test for.

In fact, if you are under 25 and sexually active, you should have a chlamydia test annually or when you change your partner.

And there are many places which offer chlamydia testing – look online for more details.

Visiting a GUM clinic

gum clinicSexual health clinics are also often known as genito-urinary medicine clinics or GUM for short.

If you need to visit one of these clinics, any information you give, including your name and address will be treated in the strictest confidence. Most places will only see you with an appointment so book in advance, however you may find certain clinics offer a walk-in service so it is best to check beforehand.

If you are under 16 you will still be seen in complete confidence. Your parents, school or doctor will not be told of your visit, regardless of whether you test positive for an infection.

Upon arrival you will be asked a series of questions by the health advisor in order to build a picture of your sexual history and determine which tests are needed to ensure proper diagnosis.
