Save it Where you Can
There are many small ways that we can contribute towards saving the environment and while we all have to make a greater effort across the board, many of us can make energy savings with little effort – plus of course the less energy used the cheaper your household bills will be, especially in these times of soaring commodity and food prices.
There are so many appliances and other things in the house and garden which use electricity such as household appliances, heating, an electric High Security Fence and garden equipment. The key is to try to analyse which is using the most electricity or gas or oil and try and make small changes accordingly.
Analyse your fuel bills and see what is costing you more. If your oil bills are sky high, why not try switching your thermostat down by just one degree. You will hardly notice the difference in terms of warmth but you will see the change in your gas bill.
If electricity is the killer, consider installing a smart meter which lets you know which of your electrical appliances are the biggest culprits, so that you can use them less or consider changing them for a more energy efficient one.
Most electricity companies also offer a reduced tariff if you use appliances such as the washing machine or tumble dryer in off peak times.

Use a plastic bag for food waste
I don’t know why it’s happened, but the bins in our street have recently been under attack from a particularly determined fox. In the mornings, the road has looked like the local waste tip, with items strewn across driveways and pavements outside every house.
I’ve become so much more careful with unwanted food now. I put it in a plastic bag, then when I place it in the bin I always put an old brick on top of the lid. It has woked well so far, because Mr Fox has concentrated on other people’s dustbins instead.

A Souris Maison About the House!
Just back from a fantastic gite holiday in the south of France, the only problem being the ‘Souris Maison’ we came across on the third night of our two week stay. As we came to know only too well during our trip, that means ‘house mouse’, and there was certainly one loose about gite!
We didn’t know how to go about dealing with the problem, especially in a different country where we didn’t speak the language. Thankfully the owners are British and they came over as soon as we reported the problem, and put a trap down.
The morning after, we all came down to find one very dead Souris Maison, who’d just enjoyed his last piece of camembert! I almost felt sorry for the creature, and our five-year-old was mesmerised! Happily all’s well that ends well, and the rest of the holiday was about relaxation, good food and fun, just as it should have been.

The cockroach, to use an example, can find a few crumbs in the unlikeliest of places, and of course that will constitute a large meal for this little critter. Unguarded pet food is another good source of sustenance. Contact the experts to find out what to do next.

Where to place a carbon monoxide detector
A carbon monoxide detector is a must have device for any homeowner. These handy little gadgets help save thousands of lives every year by detecting carbon monoxide leaks from any combustion appliance.
To ensure these devices work to their optimum, you should avoid placing them next to or above a fuel burning appliance that may give off small amounts of carbon monoxide when they start up. This can lead to an alarm sounding when no reason for warning exists.
When placing a detector in the home, you should place the device away from humid rooms like the bathroom and away from cooking appliances. The best place is on the ceiling as carbon monoxide will rise with warm air, and this also prevents interference from pets and small children.
