Deal with wet rot as soon as possible

If I ever have a problem with my home, I will deal with it as soon as possible from now on, because my brother has just undergone a horrendous experience that I really don’t want to repeat. Last year, he noticed some damage to his plaster in his cellar and chose to ignore it for a while.
It turned out be wet rot, and it continued to spread very quickly. In the end, it cost him a small fortune to eradicate, but the price would have been far less if he had just called in the experts when he first saw it.

Tanking

Tanking is a damp proofing solution often used to eliminate rising and penetrating damp in basement and cellar facilities allowing for the revitalisation of rooms that are very rarely used for modern living purposes.
The most common form of tanking is cementitious , which uses a simple system of cement based waterproof coatings to primarily combat penetrating damp caused by miniscule movements of water moving through earth retaining walls.
These tanking coatings can be plastered allowing for a smooth finish and the option to decorate and utilise basement and cellar facilities without the recurrence of damp problems.
This method of tanking often proves to be the most beneficial as it can be used in small areas and does not require the lengthy process of installing a drainage system.

My superb new telescopic loft ladder

We recently had our loft space converted, and we now have a superb new room accessed by a telescopic loft ladder. I work from home on a regular basis, so I really need peace and quiet whenever I can get it, and with a wife and three young children, a little sanctuary is very welcome indeed.

I’ve installed an Internet connection in the new study, because I often have to access my company’s database, and obviously to stay in touch with colleagues via email. Now I have my own area in which to operate, I will be able to stay away from the workplace more often, allowing me more time to see my family.

If things change in the future, we may have to convert the loft space into a bedroom, but if that happens I will have to work from home less often. Thankfully, that’s not the case at the moment.

Deal with cockroaches immediately

We all have the occasional unwanted visitor in the home, such as wasps and spiders, while some have the occasional rat or mouse. We deal with them and move on, without really thinking too much about it.
The same cant really be said about cockroaches, though. They are particularly unpleasant creatures, and their presence in the home needs to be dealt with immediately. If they take hold, an infestation can be horrible.
Cockroaches live on food waste, so ensure all spillages are cleared immediately. Dont leave pet food out for any length of time, and always maintain a high level of cleanliness. Traps and poisons are available, too.
