How to deal with mice

If youve ever found cereal boxes with holes nibbled in them, and a large number of familiar brown droppings in the kitchen, the chances are you have a problem with mice. These creatures can be extremely unhygienic so you need to deal with them as soon as possible.
The traditional trap can catch a few mice, and there are some available that can do the job humanely, but if you have an infestation youll need to lay down poison wherever the creatures are thought to appear.
You shouldnt despair, however, because mice can be removed from the home with relative ease, thanks to the range of products that are currently available.

The real health danger of plastic bags

Plastic bags often come with a suffocation warning written on them, and for good reason. Contrary to popular belief, a plastic bag does not need to be placed over a child’s head in order for them to suffocate; it simply needs to make a tight seal over their nose and mouth.

Considering a young child’s propensity to put every item they come into contact with into their mouth, this scene is far from improbable – especially when a young child faced with being unable to breathe would not automatically think to pull the bag away from their face.

The child could end up breathing more of the plastic bag into their nose and mouth as they panic, reducing their chances of being able to gain access to oxygen.

Cases have also been recorded where a child has suffocated on a piece of plastic bag they have chewed off and which has become lodged in their throat, so removing the plastic bag from the face of a child is not always enough.

The advice is simple: keep plastic bags away from young children.

Why a Spa Voucher Makes a Great Gift

If you’re wondering what to get someone as a gift, you may not have thought immediately about a spa voucher. But spa vouchers really are wonderfully thoughtful presents, allowing the recipient to spend them when it suits them. Often there is also a choice of treatments and location , giving even more freedom.

From a one-off treatment to a week-long spa break, you have a lot of flexibility in what you give and how much you spend.

So many gifts are politely received then put aside and forgotten. But a spa visit is a memorable, decadent treat. Look for the best spa deals online.

The morning after pill should not be used as regular contracepti

When it comes to warding off pregnancy, the morning after pill should be a last resort.

Although common side effects include vaginal bleeding (more irregular than your period), headaches and nausea, the biggest side effect is pregnancy!

Prevention contraception is better than post-sex contraception.

There are many different types of contraception out there which are more suitable for regular use than the morning after pill. These include the standard contraceptive pill as well as condoms and the coil.

Advice on contraception can be sought from your GP (your local doctor), a pharmacist or a member of staff at a family planning clinic. You can also get advice on the morning after pill from these sources.

If you find yourself in the position of needing the morning after pill, you should seek advice as soon as possible – the longer you leave between unprotected sex and taking the mornign after pill, the less effective it is deemed to be.

HIV transmission – preventing infection

Understanding and avoiding hiv transmission plays a crucial role in maintaining your sexual health.

Contrary to most people’s perceptions, HIV is actually a relatively non-virulent disease. it cannot survive for long outside of the body, which means the only way it can be passed from person to person is through the exchange of bodily fluids, which includes saliva, blood, semen and vaginal fluid.

Using prophylactics during sex will dramatically reduce the risk of HIV transmission, and avoiding sharing needles during intravenous injections will prevent the risk of spreading the virus in the blood. Taking these simple measures will help to seriously reduce your risk of contracting HIV.

STI Testing and Confidentiality

There’s absolutely no need to feel scared or embarrassed about going sti testing for a sexually transmitted infection. A sexually transmitted disease, after all, is an illness like any other. And youre looking after your body and doing the right thing by going for a check-up.

When you arrive you’ll be asked for your name, date of birth, address and the name of your GP. But your GP is only contacted with your agreement and nothing will be sent to you at home without your permission. When you see the doctor, be honest about your sexual history – and remember they are there to help, not judge.
