Eating correctly in restaurants and at home
Whenever a General Election is approaching in the United Kingdom, several issues become political hot potatoes. Health is one of them, and the pronouncements and promises of the country’s politicians bring home the importance of the National Health Service. Britain’s hospitals and medical experts enjoy an excellent reputation around the world.
These days, obesity is a major concern to the nation’s health professionals. The general impression for many people is that the instant availability or fast food has had a major impact on waistlines around the country, especially for those in the lower age brackets. Encouraging healthy eating, allied to a suitable exercise programme, is a top priority for doctors and health ministers.
Binge drinking is regularly in the headlines
In recent times, the increase in binge drinking has repeatedly hit the headlines. On Saturday nights, the accident and emergency departments of hospitals across Britain are often deluged with victims of alcohol-fuelled accidents and crime. Despite public information programmes aimed at highlighting the risk of over-indulgence, the problem doesn’t appear to be getting any better.
Many people have taken on a healthier outlook
It should be pointed out, however, that many people in Britain are buying into a healthier lifestyle. The country’s parks are teeming with joggers at the weekends, and gym membership is on the increase. It seems that for every person who could do more about their health, there’s another who is taking their fitness seriously.
A Government-backed initiative aimed at increasing the numbers of people getting involved in sport in recent years has also helped to heighten awareness about health and fitness.
